
July 3 (THEWILL) — Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has died after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds by suspected bandits during an attack along the Wukari–Makurdi road.
Prof. Salifu served as Secretary to the Benue State Government during the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom.
THEWILL gathered that the former top government official was travelling from Wukari in Taraba State to Makurdi, the Benue State capital, when armed bandits intercepted his vehicle. He reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.
Sources familiar with the incident disclosed that Prof. Salifu was rushed to a hospital in Makurdi, Benue State, where doctors battled to save his life. However, he was pronounced dead on Thursday night.
As of press time, authorities in Benue had yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
