January 14, (THEWILL) – The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State, Francis Idu, has decorated the state command’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Mohammed, and 68 other officers with new ranks in a ceremony that highlighted the Nigerian Police Force’s commitment to rewarding excellence and hard work.
MMohammed was elevated from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The newly promoted officers also included 29 personnel promoted from Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police 18 from Deputy Superintendent of Police to SP, and 21 from ASP to DSP.
Speaking during the decoration ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess in Yenagoa, CP Francis Idu lauded the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for prioritizing timely promotions as a way to reward diligence and dedication to duty.
“The IGP has ensured that hardworking officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force are recognized and promoted as and when due. His leadership has been pivotal in motivating personnel across the country, especially here in Bayelsa State,” Idu said.
He urged the newly promoted officers to justify their elevation by redoubling their efforts in safeguarding lives and property, emphasising the need for greater commitment to law enforcement and community safety.
“We assure the citizens of Bayelsa that we will continue to invest our capacity and competencies to ensure the management of law and order guarantees freedom from fear,” the CP stated.
He further revealed that the command has undertaken crime mapping and compiled crime footage to enhance operational efficiency, noting that these measures have improved crime prevention and response.
“The IG has ensured those who are due for promotion are promptly promoted. It is now up to the newly elevated officers to reciprocate by demonstrating intolerance to crime and criminalities,” Idu said.
The Commissioner also emphasised the importance of collaboration with citizens, community-based organizations and youth groups to enhance security strategies.
“Bayelsa is a unique terrain with its creeks, meandering rivers, and swampy areas. It is imperative to involve citizens in our efforts, as their input is crucial for the success of our operations. Neglecting community participation is a recipe for failure,” he added.
Highlighting the technological advancements in the command’s operations, Idu disclosed that the state police employ drones and other equipment for surveillance and crime monitoring.
“Our command operates over 18 hours daily with about eight drones. While technology plays a significant role, 75 percent of our success depends on the input and cooperation of the people,” he explained.
The CP charged the newly promoted officers to work closely with their communities, assess past shortcomings, and develop holistic strategies to maintain law and order in the new year.
He concluded by affirming the command’s resolve to ensure Bayelsa remains safe and free from fear, pledging to strengthen efforts in crime prevention and community engagement.
