Bayelsa LG Chairmen

October 16, (THEWILL) — Local Government Chairmen in Bayelsa State, under the aegis of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), have announced their resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring support for Governor Douye Diri’s decision to quit the party.

The chairmen made their position known during a press conference held at the ALGON Secretariat in Yenagoa, where they affirmed their loyalty to the governor.

Speaking on behalf of the association, the Chairman of Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Lelei Tariye Isaac, cited the ongoing crisis within the PDP as the reason for their collective resignation.

He also expressed appreciation to Bayelsans for their continued support for the Prosperity Government.

“We are indeed grateful for the opportunity to serve you over the past one and a half years.

“We were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, and today, we are aware that our leader, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has formally resigned his membership of the PDP,” Isaac said.

“As Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Councillors and appointees of the Local Government Areas, we support the decision of our governor. We stand with him and, consequently, we hereby resign our membership of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he added.

Those present at the briefing included Hon. David Alagoa, Chairman of Nembe Local Government Area; Hon. Target Isaiah Segibo, Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area; and Hon. Bulodisiye Ndiwari, Chairman of Yenagoa Local Government Area.

Others were Hon. Isaac Onniye, Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, and Hon. Golden Jeremiah, Chairman of Ogbia Local Government Area.

However, Hon. Alice Allen Tangi of Sagbama Local Government Area and Hon. Lucky Febo of Brass Local Government Area were unavoidably absent.
