October 24, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, has said with the launch of “Operation Occupy Black Spots” by the service in the state, over 300 pickpockets and other criminal elements in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital, have been apprehended and handed over to the Police.
According to Hon. Doubiye Alagba, Operation Occupy Black Spots has reduced cases of pickpocketing, attack and robbery of pedestrians and their valuables in broad daylight.
While parading a 21-year-old male, Christian Olali, popularly known as Arab, and a known member of the Bobos Cult group, over alleged membership of a three-man robbery gang involved in daylight robbery, Alagba said the service has raided criminal areas, illicit drug zones and no fewer than 300 pickpocket miscreants have been flushed out of the state.
He disclosed that the suspect, Christian Olali, who is from Foropa Community in Southern Ijaw LGA of the state and his gang of three members, who are now at large, were apprehended for their involvement in pickpocketing during rush hour at the Tombia-Etegwe motor park axis.
Hon. Doubiye Alagba pointed out that since the introduction of the “Occupy Black Spots” operation, some identified black spots such as the Popular Swali Market, Ox-bow Lake Pavillion, Obele, Tombia-Etegwe Roundabout and Mechanic village areas have been properly policed by the operatives of the State Vigilante Service.
According to him, “Right now, the prosperity Government led by Gov. Douye Diri is doing a lot to maintain the peaceful atmosphere. It has been achieved, especially in the state capital in terms of beautification as there are flood lights all over the area, such that the area is well lit at night. We are determined to keep miscreants completely out of Yenagoa”.
“We have consistently raided criminal areas and drug zones. No fewer than 300 pickpocket miscreants have been flushed out of the state under my watch as chairman of the state vigilante outfit”. He added.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been handed over to Operation Doo-Akpo of the Nigerian Police Force for further investigations.
