December 17, (THEWILL) – The Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, has urged Nigerians to be patient with the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu administration, as its reforms to rejuvenate the economy bite hard, noting that “something good is coming”.
Insisting that President Tinubu means well for Nigeria and its future through the policies and reforms he has put in place so far, Senator Pam maintained that the rot the Tinubu administration inherited was such that only hard-line policy options will redeem and reverse the decay and hopelessness to which the socio-economic future had been plunged.
Disclosing that the 10th Senate under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio is upright, focused, and a sharp departure from the complacent tradition of “business as usual”, Senator Pam denied widely held claims that Senators in this dispensation receive several million at the end of every month. He said, “I am still staying in a rented house. I am yet to see the millions ascribed to the Senators. We are very strict with our oversight function. For the 10th Senate, it is not business as usual”.
Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang made these remarks on the occasion of dinner and awards night of the alumni of Government College, Katsina-Ala, Benue State, when he was also honoured as a distinguished alumnus, in an elaborate ceremony that saw a reunion of old school mates of one of the foremost old provincial colleges in North Central Nigeria.
Receiving the award from the chairman of the occasion, Ambassador E.E Onobu, himself a 1967 graduate of Government College, Katsina-Ala, Senator Pam said he was humbled by the recognition and honour, as he noted solemnly that “I am not worthy of this award”.
However, the chairman of the occasion, E.E. Onobu, said, “Senator Pam is an inspiration”, as he urged other alumni of the college to emulate Pam by getting involved in politics.
Onobu, who also noted that “Senator Pam has been doing great work as a Senator for Nigeria”, wants members of KAOBA to continue to be enthusiastic by making contributions to sustain the Association and its programmes irrespective of the subsisting hard times in the country, saying the award night afforded members a unique opportunity to relive and share values learned at Government College, Katsina-Ala.
Earlier in a welcome address, Dr Chiichii Ashwey (KAOBA ’71), as chairman of FCT KAOBA and host of the occasion said, “the annual dinner and award night provides a unique opportunity for Katsina-Ala Old Boys to get together, eat, drink, and socialise and ruminate over the good times we had at Government College, Katsina-Ala, and how those experiences have shaped and influenced our lives in the wider world”.
Besides Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang, two other awardees were Professors Godwin Ichekanu Adoga and Johnson Ogoda Onah.
Government College, Katsina-Ala is a first-generation secondary school in Central Nigeria, which commenced as a provincial college to mould future leaders and boasts of distinguished alumni including Rtd General T.Y. Danjuma.
