
January 22, (THEWILL) – Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has regained her freedom from prison custody in the United Kingdom.
THEWILL recalled that Beatrice, her husband, and a medical doctor, Obinna Obeta were convicted in 2023 in the United Kingdom for charges concerning organ harvesting and trafficking.
The couple had attempted to buy the kidney of a young Nigerian boy for their daughter Sophia.
While the former Deputy Senate President was sentenced to 10 years in prison, Mrs Ekweremadu received a six-year sentence
Reports say Mrs Ekweremadu returned to Nigeria on Tuesday.
