December 30, (THEWILL) – The Benue State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, amounting to N550,112,988,930.45, into law during its plenary session on Monday.
The budget, titled “Budget of Human Capital Development, Food Security, and Digital Economy,” was approved following its third reading presided over by the Speaker, Chief Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.
The bill’s passage followed the presentation of the House Committee on Appropriation’s report by its Chairman, Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako.
The budget, earlier presented by Governor Hyacinth Alia, was reviewed clause by clause before being adopted. The Clerk of the House, Mr. John Hwande, formally read the bill for the third time.
The Assembly also deliberated on the recruitment controversies surrounding the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Following recommendations from an Ad-Hoc Committee led by Rt. Hon. Cephas Dyako, the House approved measures to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process for primary school teachers.
Speaker Dajoh highlighted the Assembly’s achievements during the Second Sitting of the Tenth Assembly, noting that six bills were received, nine passed, four are under committee review, and five remain pending.
Additionally, the Assembly deliberated on 17 substantive motions, adopted 31 resolutions, and debated seven key communications from the executive arm.
Dajoh commended Governor Alia for prioritizing the renovation of the Assembly complex.
He expressed optimism that the completed renovations would provide improved office accommodations and a befitting chamber for plenary sessions.
The Assembly has now proceeded on recess, marking the conclusion of its Second Sitting. The Speaker encouraged members to redouble their efforts in preparation for the resumption of legislative activities in January 2025.
