
June 05, (THEWILL) – Member-elect of the Benue State House of assembly for Gboko East constituency, Mrs Becky Orpin, has been presented by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a consensus candidate for speakership.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Dan Morgan Ihomun, while briefing newsmen in Makurdi, explained that the stakeholders after brainstormed meeting, arrived at the decision.
He stated that the APC looked at past occupants of the office in the state and came to conclusion that the Jemgbagh block, consisting Tarka, Buruku and Gboko local Government areas and zoned the seat Gboko.
According to Mr Ihomun, all the stakeholders in the meeting including five former speakers, national assembly members-elect on the platform of the party and members of the State Working Committee, arrived at Mrs Orpin of Gboko East to emerge after proclamation by the governor on Monday.
He stated that the APC-dominated assembly with 21 members, won’t give the post of Deputy Speaker to the opposition People’s Democratic Party with ten members as been agitated.
Governor Hyacinth Alia will inaugurate the 10th Benue State House of Assembly by 10am on Monday, May 5, 2023.
