Zhang Becomes First Woman Golfer To Win LPGA Tour Debut Since 1951

Rose Zhang

June 05, (THEWILL) – Rose Zhang made an extraordinary professional winning debut at the Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National.

In a sudden death playoff, Zhang defeated Jennifer Kupcho to clinch the victory after shooting a final-round 74, tying Kupcho at 9-under. Zhang becomes the first woman golfer to win in her LPGA Tour debut since 1951. Additionally, her win grants her LPGA Tour membership. Her path to victory was a dramatic one. Despite missing a birdie putt on the 16th hole, she made a crucial par save on the 17th to take a one-shot lead heading into the final hole.

Although she narrowly missed a putt for the win on the 18th, she forced a playoff with Kupcho. Both players made par saves on the first playoff hole, but it was Zhang who ultimately prevailed on the second playoff hole, securing the win with a par as Kupcho three-putted.
