September 17, (THEWILL) — The Chairman of Tarka Local Government Council in Benue State, Mr Raphael Yenge, has awarded the sum of N5 million as scholarship to some Secondary and Primary Schools in the area.
He also donated 1,000 exercise books in the first phase scholarship scheme floated by his administration.
Speaking at the ‘Youth O’clock Initiative Scholarship Scheme phase 1’ ceremony, sponsored by his administration, held at Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, Mr Yenge expressed the commitment of his administration’s resolve to sustain the massive development incentives in order to extend the blueprint of the Local Government Workable Administrative framework.
“It is designed by the Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration to revive the misfortunes in the third tier of Government in Benue State”, Yenge stated.
The Council Chairman explained that the random selection of beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme encompasses, students from secondary and primary schools in Tarka local Government, who are from vulnerable homes, Head Boys and Girls from the affected schools.
Also, in the education categories are students and pupils who performed excellently well at the 2025 Children Day celebration in Tarka Local Government Area.
According to the Tarka Council Chairman, the scholarship scheme was also a deliberate initiative in conjunction with his expanded council leadership not just to execute his grassroots campaign realities, but also to complement the education transformation efforts of Governor Alia’s administration in the council area.
He expressed his hope to extend the gesture to Tarka Students who are studying in higher institutions in Nigeria in the course of time.
The guest speaker at the occasion, Prof Bem Angwe, who is also the All Progressives Congress (APC) Acting State Secretary, described the event as historic, focused and timely.
Professor Angwe, the former Executive Secretary of Human Rights Commission, stressed the importance of education and encouraged female gender to be dogged, bright and bold in their studies devoid of intimidation by their male folk.
He eulogised the Chairman of Tarka Local Government Council, Mr Raphael Yenge, for replicating the blueprint of the governor Alia’s administration in his local government for the benefits of the communities.
In his closing remarks, the Education Secretary, Tarka local Government council, Bro Barnabas Kwaghbo, described the Chairman as a resilient and dogged young man who’s passionate about the development of the area is in all sector of governance at the grassroots.
He commended Governor Alia for setting the standard of development, especially in the area of education and infrastructure in Benue State and prayed for safe return of all dignitaries that attended the event.
A statement signed by the Youths O’clock Media Team, Mr Eric Iortyer, quoted other dignitaries that spoke at the event to include the Special Adviser on Women Affairs, Hon. Chief Mrs Scholastica Bemsor, PSA to the Governor on Local Government Monitoring and Inspection, Hon. Ioryue Yajir, Prof. Tivlumun Amine, as well as HRH, Gandeorun Akaa, Ter Tarka, among others.
