November 16, (THEWILL) – The Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has elected a new executive council to steer its affairs for the next three years, with Comrade Bemdoo Ugber emerging as Chairman.
The election, held on Saturday at the NUJ Secretariat in Makurdi, saw all seven officials returned unopposed.
The Union National President, Dr. Chris Isiguzo, represented by the Vice President of Zone D, Comrade Kris Atsaka, commended delegates for conducting a peaceful and orderly election.
Isiguzo urged union members to support the new leadership in delivering on its mandate, emphasising the need for unity and development within the union.
Former NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ben Mnguityo, highlighted the importance of leaving a legacy, referencing his tenure as NUJ Chairman, which contributed to his two-term election into the Benue State House of Assembly.
Similarly, Hon. Peter Ipusu, representing Katsina-Ala West in the State Assembly, expressed confidence in the new executive’s capacity to perform and pledged continued support for the union.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Ugber thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for his support to the union and for fostering peace in the state. He vowed to ensure that NUJ members uphold their constitutional role of holding the government accountable to the people.
Other elected officials include Jerry Tyosase (Vice Chairman), Orymian Gwaza (Secretary), Brenda Agba (Treasurer), Moses Adikwu (Assistant Secretary), Terna Nengean (Financial Secretary), and Ene Akogwu (Auditor).
