November 06, (THEWILL) – The Chairmanship aspirant for the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Benue State, Pastor Msughter Asue, has promised to establish welfare funds for members both serving and deceased if voted into office.

In a chat with THEWILL ahead of the December 17, 2024 delegates Conference, holding in Gboko, Benue State, to elect new leaders, Pastor Asue said fostering of unity and progress among all teachers in the state is also one of his work plan.

“I will work to enhance the social and economic well-being of members. Serving, deceased and retired, among others as enshrined in the Union’s constitution will be catered for in the scheme of things”, he assured.

He stated that election is not a battle, but quest to serve if ordained by God, appealing to delegates to consider casting their votes in his favour to emerge as the state chairman.

According to him, chairmanship position has been zoned to Benue North East and micro zoned to Jechira Federal Constituency and members sat and narrowed it to Vandeikya where he comes from.

“I was nominated to contest unanimously and adopted by all the stakeholders of Zone A ,B and C”, respectively.

The chairmanship hopefully said, he intend to fund his work plan, if elected into office as enshrine in the Union Constitution through monthly check-off dues, donations, proceeds from the welfare scheme and gifts from well-meaning bodies among others.

He accused the outgoing state NUT chairman of failure to foster unity of purpose and among all Teachers, as well as failed to enhance the social and economic well-being of members.

“Comrade Levi Akuma did not adhere to the aim and objectives of the welfare scheme funds. I will adhere by the Union’s constitution and cooperate with Government, so as to restore the lost glory in Public Basic Education in the State in line with the Governor Alia administration’s policy on education”, he assured.

He emphasised that the restoration of Comradeship between teachers and other workers will take centre stage on assumption of office if elected.
