April 20, (THEWILL) – To ensure a peaceful Easter celebration for Christians in Benue State, Governor Hyacinth Alia has sent his greetings, while the Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, has instructed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to provide adequate security at churches and event venues.
The Police Commissioner emphasised the need to intensify patrols and surveillance to prevent breakdown of law and order.
The Governor said Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection demonstrate selflessness, freeing humanity from chaos and condemnation, and nurturing hope and optimism for a life of virtue on earth and eternity.
He regrets that this year’s Easter is being marked at a time the State has come under several attacks, assuring that his administration is doing everything within its power in collaboration with security agencies to ensure the safety of all Benue people.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor calls for collaboration amongst the people of the State in order to be able to defeat the forces of evil, who are bent on causing pain and agony to the innocent people of the State and across the country.
The Governor solicits prayers, love for one another, forgiveness, sacrifice and reconciliation, which are the dominant virtues that Jesus Christ bequeathed to mankind as a result of his death, burial and resurrection.
He prays for God’s grace and blessings over the people of the state, during and after the period of the Easter celebration.
On his part, CP Yabanet also called on Christians to pray for peace and stability of the state, as the Command remains committed to the fight against crime.
He encourages Christians to continue to embrace peace, unity and goodwill in their communities as the Christian religion teaches.
Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Sewuese Anene, quotes the Commissioner as advising members of the public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies as they go about securing their communities.
The statement encouraged people of the state to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies around them.
