July 30, (THEWILL) – Arising from its emergency meeting the Benue State Security Council has banned all forms of protest ahead of the planned nationwide exercise, as disruption of law and order will not be tolerated in the state.
The Chairman of Benue State Peace Commission and member of the council, Bishop Nathan Inyom, while briefing members of the press after the session in Makurdi, noted that the decision was in furtherance of the efforts of the state government to ensure peaceful coexistence and total adherence to the law and order.
“While thanking labour unions, students, youths, market women and other registered bodies in the state for peaceful coordination of their activities and obedience to the law and order, all Benue youths within the state are to steer clear of the planned protest.”
The council charged all security heads in the state to ensure total adherence to the laid-down law and order and protect all national and state assets in the state.
It advised all enemies in the state supporting criminal elements to foment trouble and cause unnecessary tension to desist forthwith.
“Directed all the Special Advisers on Security in conjunction with that of NSPTIP and Traditional Council to ensure holistic orientation on the dangers of human trafficking and drug abuse.”
According to Bishop Inyom, the council assured security agencies in the state of government support and cooperation in addressing their duties.
The council urged Benue residents not to panic about the planned protest but to go about their lawful duties as the government is working round the clock to ensure the protection of lives and property.
It insists that any attempt to breach peace will be met with the full weight of the law.
