September 01, (THEWILL) – The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Benue State Chapter, has congratulated the former Speaker, Rt. Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, on his appointment as Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the State.
“Your appointment as the Youth and Sports Commissioner by Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration has not come as a surprise, considering the track record of achievement you have garnered while serving as speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly in the past.
In a statement signed by its chairman, John Shiaondo and Secretary, Tamenor Kwaghzer, in Makurdi on Friday, noted that SWAN is mindful that as the former Speaker, he had interacted not only with youth groups across the state, but also with stakeholders in sports and became familiar with the demographics that led to the enactment of laws to address the challenges and prospects for both sectors.
The association, therefore, described Rt Ikyange as a round peg in a round hole, who will deliver the needed materials to turn around the fortunes of the sports sector for the good of all.
“As journalists vested with the responsibility of reporting and promoting sports in Benue, we pledge to partner with your office and work with you closely by publicising the activities and achievements of your office.”
SWAN, therefore, wishes the new Commissioner a fruitful stay as he steers the affairs of the sports ministry.
It will be recalled that Governor Hyacinth Alia, on Tuesday, swore in 17 Commissioners and over 23 Special Advisers with a charge on them to place the interest of the state above their own.
Governor Alia, who performed the ceremony at the Government House, Makurdi, also charged them to be ready at any time to defend why he or she should retain the position.
