September 18, (THEWILL) — The Vice Chancellor of Father Adasu University, Makurdi, Prof. Simon Ubwa, has explained that only 10,000 of the 30,000 applicants seeking admission into the institution were taken due to inadequate lecture halls and hostels.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel in Makurdi, Ubwa disclosed that the university had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private company to build 1,000 additional hostels.
He added that the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) was also intervening in the provision of hostels and lecture halls, noting that the challenges would be significantly addressed by next year.
He appealed to members of the non-academic staff union to call off their strike and resume duties, stressing that academic activities were continuing in all departments despite the industrial action.
The Vice Chancellor dismissed allegations of admission and examination racketeering in the university, insisting that such practices had never been recorded under the immediate past administration of Prof.
Tor Joe Iorapuu and would not be tolerated under his watch.
Ubwa further warned that the university would withdraw certificates from any graduate found to be misrepresenting the institution or portraying it in a negative light.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Emmanuel Antswen, said the visit was to seek clarifications on developments in the institution and urged the university management to maintain an open-door policy for scrutiny.
