February 26, (THEWILL) – The management of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, has ordered the closure of the institution for one week following the recent abduction of students.
A statement signed by the Registrar, Dr. John David, said the decision was reached after consultations with relevant agencies and stakeholders.
According to the statement, the mid-semester break is a show of solidarity with students and parents affected by the abduction.
The management also announced the indefinite postponement of an inaugural lecture scheduled for Wednesday.
“The public is urged to remain calm as security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe rescue of the victims,” the statement added.
Sources disclosed that four female students were abducted, but one managed to escape and recounted the ordeal.
However, the Benue State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of only two students, stating that efforts are underway to secure their release.
