July 23, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress in Osun State has explained its opposition to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged move to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC, describing him as a “big baggage and liability” whose entry would compromise the party’s integrity.
In a statement on Wednesday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, claimed that Adeleke’s defection bid was motivated by fear of defeat in the 2026 governorship election.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke was rejected because he was quickly identified as a Trojan horse—a big baggage and liability that would hurt the integrity of the APC,” Lawal said.
He stated, “The highly informed Osun public is aware that the governor, fearing a looming electoral loss in 2026, desperately sought political asylum in our party to safeguard his future. Many residents are pleased with the firm stance we took against such desperation.”
He described the PDP in Osun as a “leprous house” deserted by well-meaning politicians.
“Since 2023, the PDP has been morally emaciated and reduced to a war booty for the Adeleke dynasty.
“Bright minds and individuals with integrity have continued to dump the tattered umbrella for our party, unable to stomach the deceit, corruption, and brigandage characterising Adeleke’s administration,” he added.
According to Lawal, the exodus has left the PDP with “carcasses and political dregs” and no meaningful structure to retain power in future elections.
He dismissed claims by the PDP that it remains the most popular party in the state, saying such assertions were self-delusional and unsupported by facts.
