July 18, (THEWILL) – A Bill seeking to establish a federal agency for the conduct of Local Government elections in Nigeria has passed its first reading at the Nigerian Senate.

Titled: “Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (SB. 531)”, the Bill is sponsored by an All Progressives Congress (APC) member representing Niger East senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Sani Musa.

Musa, who is also, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Finance, introduced the Bill at the plenary session of the Red “chamber on Thursday, where it was passed first reading.
