December 13, (THEWILL) — United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has announced significant adjustments to its executive leadership, confirming the retirement of four Executive Directors and the appointment of three new ones, effective January 1, 2026.

In a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, the bank disclosed the retirement of Mr Muyiwa Akinyemi, Deputy Managing Director; Mrs Abiola Bawuah, Executive Director; Mr Alex Alozie, Executive Director; and Mrs Sola Yomi-Ajayi, Executive Director, following the completion of their respective tenures.

Expressing appreciation for their service, UBA Group Chairman, Tony O. Elumelu, praised the outgoing executives for their dedication and impact on the bank’s sustained growth.

“I express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the retiring Executive Directors for their years of dedicated service, steadfast commitment, and support to UBA. Each of them has made significant contributions to the growth and success of UBA Group. On behalf of the Board, I thank them for their service and commend their impact. They will remain cherished members of the UBA family and enduring ambassadors of the values and standards we represent”, Elumelu stated.

As part of its succession plan, the Board approved the appointment of three new Executive Directors which are subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The new directors are Mr Emmanuel Lamptey as Executive Director, Digital Banking; Mr Tosin Adewuyi as Executive Director, Corporate Banking; and Mr Chidi Okpala as Executive Director, UBA Nigeria.

Lamptey joins the board with 25 years of widespread experience across retail and corporate banking, asset management, insurance, pensions, and microfinance, with operations spanning more than 30 African countries. He is an alumnus of Harvard Business School and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Adewuyi brings over 25 years of expertise across Sub-Saharan Africa, including senior roles in London and Lagos covering Structured Trade Finance, Corporate and Investment Banking, Debt Capital Markets, and Financial Institutions Coverage. He is a Fellow of ACCA, an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, and an alumnus of Wharton Business School.

Okpala, formerly Executive Director for Payments, Group Integration and Strategy at Heirs Holdings, has more than 20 years of banking experience and strong background in payments innovation, technology, and corporate strategy. He is a Sloan Fellow of the London Business School and holds advanced degrees in Finance, Banking & Finance, and Leadership & Strategy.

UBA stated that the leadership changes reflect its commitment to strengthening governance, enhancing innovation, and sustaining its growth momentum across Africa and global financial markets.
