SAN FRANCISCO, September 26, (THEWILL) – Coming barely seven days after suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked Buni-Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing three people and setting several property in the area on fire, a pastor and two of his children were killed on Thursday by suspected Boko Haram gunmen who raided Doruwa, Garin-Baba village in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The gunmen were said to have burnt down a church and two other houses in the village before fleeing.
Nangere is 110 kilometres west of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital.
Confirming the attack in a statement, the military spokesman of the 3 Division Special Operation Battalion, Captain Eli Lazarus, said the Boko Haram insurgents stormed Doruwa, Garin-Baba Village in the early hours of Thursday, killing the pastor and two of his children.
“In the early hours of Thursday, 26 September 2013, unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attacked Dorawa village in Nangere Local Government Council of Yobe State. During the attack, a pastor and his two children were killed,” Lazarus said in the statement.
The statement came as witnesses told journalists that “the insurgents who were eight in number arrived the village around 1am Thursday morning on two motorcycles and killed three residents before burning a local church and five other houses in the village.”
The statement said no arrest has been made but efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
It enjoined law abiding citizens not to relent in providing credible and timely information that could help security agencies to overcome terrorism in the state and the country as a whole.
