SAN FRANCISCO, September 26, (THEWILL) – In a rare show of human kindness and display of emotion, the Borno State governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, on Thursday at the General Muhammadu Shuwa Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, volunteered and donated his blood to save the life of a pregnant woman, whose husband had abandoned thinking she was dead.
Disclosing this in Maiduguri was the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, while speaking at a summit organised by a group, Youths Federation for World Peace in the North-East, to mark the International Day of Peace.
The commissioner said the governor who was on an unscheduled visit to the hospital was moved by the state he met the woman who was almost giving up the ghost and had to volunteer to donate his blood as a way of saving the dying woman.
Shettima, according to the commissioner, was able to discover through the medical attendant that his blood group matched that of the woman and was glad to make the sacrifice.
“The governor in his usual mannerism indicated interest to give his blood to save the woman. This is what is expected of a leader, and Governor Kashim Shettima has been teaching the people of Borno State what it means to be a true servant leader,” the commissioner said.
