SAN FRANCISCO, August 26, (THEWILL) – About 4,000 persons were displaced following the recent Boko Haram attack which claimed the lives of 44 persons last week in Dumba, Borno State.
This came as two new babies were also delivered at the Dumba relief camp being operated by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
It will be recalled that Dumba, a village in Kukawa council of Borno State was attacked by the gunmen on August 20 .
A statement issued on Monday by the  Northeast zonal information officer of NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said over 4,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) were registered in Baga town by the agency.
Most of the displaced persons, according to the statement, were fishermen and farmers.
The statement said the zonal coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, led a team of officers from the zonal office to register the IDPs in a camp located at the Central Primary School in Baga town.
It said the displaced persons were provided with mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, buckets, cups, plates, wax prints, guinea brocade, bathing soap, sanitary pads, and detergents.
The statement noted further that the displaced persons were provided with food items like rice, maize, guinea corn, millet, vegetable oil, palm oil, indomie, salt, sugar and milk.
The NEMA team, it was gathered, was  led to the camp by security agents from the Joint Task Force (JTF) and assisted at the camp by Red Cross and other stakeholders.
According to the statement, the Chairman of Baga Local Government Area, Lawal Alhaji Kole, who was at the camp to receive the NEMA officials, extended his appreciation to the Federal Government for providing succour to the people at the time of their need.
Ali Kufayi, who spoke on behalf of the displaced persons expressed appreciation to NEMA for its prompt response and for providing relief materials to the community which was attacked and looted by insurgents.
