May 05, (THEWILL) — The Borno State Police Command has successfully averted what could have developed into a serious security incident after recovering and safely detonating an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri.
The timely intervention followed a routine surveillance and foot patrol conducted by police operatives at about 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, in Layin Logo, Moduganari, where a suspicious unattended bag was observed in the area.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the discovery prompted immediate tactical response from the patrol team, who quickly secured the scene to prevent civilian exposure and potential harm.
He explained that following standard security protocols, the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was promptly deployed to the location for further assessment and neutralisation of the suspicious object.
On arrival, the EOD specialists conducted a careful inspection and confirmed that the bag contained an improvised explosive device. The device was thereafter safely detonated in a controlled operation, ensuring that no casualties or property damage were recorded.
The Command described the swift and coordinated response as a demonstration of its heightened vigilance and operational readiness in addressing emerging security threats across the state, particularly in densely populated communities.
ASP Daso assured residents that the Command remains fully committed to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that proactive policing and intelligence-led patrols will continue to be intensified across Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State.
He further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious objects, movements, or individuals to the nearest security formation or through designated emergency communication channels.
Daso added that investigations have commenced to determine the origin and intended placement of the explosive device, noting that the Command would provide further updates as the inquiry progresses.
