March 03, (THEWILL) – Governor Siminalayi Fubara has charged Rivers people to brace up for the task ahead, declaring that the time has come for them to take their destinies into their own hands.
Governor Fubara issued this call on Monday while inaugurating the Rivers State Government House Staff Quarters, reconstructed by his administration, along Forces Avenue (opposite Government House), Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
The Governor acknowledged that the Supreme Court’s judgment had dampened the spirits of many residents but emphasised that despite relentless opposition, his administration remains committed to irreversible governance, assuring victory for the state.
He noted that while the court’s pronouncements may have caused distress, Rivers people must trust that God will fulfil His purpose.
Governor Fubara clarified that he neither condones violence nor encourages lawlessness but warned that his administration will confront attempts to incite unrest in the state.
He said: “Our trust is not in mortals but in God. I assure you, if there is one person on this earth who will stand by you unwaveringly, it is me. I will lead with honour, respect and integrity. Decades from now, I want to defend my actions with pride.”
He added: “However, deceived we may have been, the moment has arrived for Rivers people to reclaim their future. Though I reject violence, when decisive action is needed, I will lead it. The worst that can happen is my leaving office—not my existence. Truth and justice will prevail.”
Quoting Philippians 3:18–19, Fubara drew parallels between adversaries and those “whose god is their appetite, glorying in shame.” He reaffirmed his commitment to righteousness: “Our strength lies in God and the people. True honour lies in fighting for truth, not self-interest.”
Reflecting on governance, he said: “We seek lasting legacies, not fleeting gains. Our focus is uplifting lives, securing futures, and opening doors for generations. This conviction drives me to stand firm for justice.”
Commenting on the staff quarters project, Governor Fubara expressed pride in his administration’s foresight: “This building was dilapidated and uninhabitable. We transformed it because our workers deserve dignity. Efficient governance begins with their welfare.”
He thanked state elders for their support and pledged not to betray their trust in his leadership.
