December 01, (THEWILL) — Nigeria’s economy continued its steady recovery in the third quarter of 2025, recording a 3.98 per cent year-on-year growth in real Gross Domestic Product, according to the latest figures released on Monday by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The performance represents a slight improvement from the 3.86 per cent growth posted in the same quarter of 2024, indicating renewed economic momentum across key sectors.
Agriculture and industry led the expansion, posting stronger growth compared to the previous year. The agriculture sector grew by 3.79 per cent, up from the 2.55 per cent recorded in Q3 2024.
The bureau attributed the improved performance to better harvests, enhanced farming interventions, and more stable weather conditions.
The industry sector also strengthened, rising by 3.77 per cent from 2.78 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2024.
The uptick reflects improved activity in manufacturing and a modest recovery in oil-related production, despite ongoing pressures from energy costs and foreign exchange constraints.
Meanwhile, the services sector — which remains the backbone of the economy — expanded by 4.15 per cent, slightly below the 4.97 per cent recorded in Q3 2024.
Despite the slowdown, services maintained their dominance, contributing 53.02 per cent to Nigeria’s total GDP in Q3 2025, up from 52.93 per cent in the same period last year.
Key drivers included telecommunications, finance, transportation, and trade.
Economists say the Q3 data reflects broad-based improvement across the economy, with stronger performances in non-oil sectors helping to cushion the impact of global uncertainties.
They note that sustaining the growth momentum will require continued reforms, targeted investment, and greater policy stability.
