March 03, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite in a fresh cabinet reshuffle to strengthen the nation’s fiscal management framework.
The President has also redeployed Uzoka-Anite to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking her third portfolio in the current administration.
The development was announced in a statement signed on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu formally conveyed Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for confirmation.
Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded sweeping reforms that significantly overhauled Nigeria’s tax system and fiscal architecture.
A native of Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist and public policy expert brings decades of experience in taxation, fiscal policy and economic advisory services to the new role.
Oyedele began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, earning a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He further sharpened his expertise through executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
With a professional career spanning over two decades, Oyedele joined PwC in 2001 and rose through the ranks to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, positioning himself as one of the continent’s foremost tax reform advocates.
Beyond corporate practice, he is a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and serves as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, contributing to academic discourse on fiscal governance and economic reform.
The nomination is seen as part of President Tinubu’s broader efforts to deepen fiscal reforms, enhance revenue generation, and stabilise Nigeria’s macroeconomic environment as his administration pushes forward with its economic transformation agenda.
