BREAKING: Tinubu Postpones First FEC Meeting Of 2026

Tinubu- FEC- meeting

January 21, (THEWILL) — The first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting of 2026 has been postponed on the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

THEWILL gathered that the cabinet meeting, earlier scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, was abruptly cancelled after ministers had already arrived and taken their seats at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Sources said the postponement followed the absence of the President, who normally presides over the weekly meeting.

President Tinubu returned to Abuja late Sunday night after Nigeria’s participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. He had been away since December 28, 2025, when he departed Lagos for Europe before proceeding to Abu Dhabi.

This is the second time an FEC meeting has been postponed in recent history. In 2024, the council meeting was deferred in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.

No new date has yet been announced for the rescheduled meeting.
