December 09, (THEWILL) — No fewer than 200 students from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States were awarded N200,000 scholarship by BUA Cement, to enable them to pursue their tertiary education in the country.
The beneficiaries comprise 50 students each from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states, while another 50 were selected from Wamakko Local Government Area, the host community of BUA’s operations.
The Managing Director of BUA Cement, Yusuf Binji, represented by Ali Gumel, said the gesture is part of the company’s annual scholarship support to educational development in the region.
He said the company increased the scholarship value from N100,000 to N200,000 to address the rising financial needs of students.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the fund judiciously to offset their tuition fees and other essential school expenses.
“We want to see serious improvement in your academics, and we will monitor your progress”, he said.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary, Zamfara State Scholarship Board, Professor Rashida Liman, described BUA as a donor of opportunities and a strong partner in educational development.
She said the intervention aligns with the Zamfara state government’s goal of ensuring that no student is left behind.
BUA’s Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs, Sada Suleiman, in his remarks, said the scholarship programme complements government efforts in the education sector.
He, however, promised the beneficiaries to consider undergoing industrial attachments known as SIWES and National Youth Service Corps placements in the organisation.
Also speaking, the District Head of Arkila, Aliyu Hassan, commended BUA Cement for supporting the educational aspirations of young people and appealed for more employment opportunities for host communities.
Some beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the gesture received from the organisation.
