October 12, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, for trafficking 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his body.
A statement by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, said Emeka was arrested on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight, following credible intelligence.
According to Babafemi, a body scan conducted on the suspect confirmed he had ingested illicit drugs and concealed others in his private parts.
“A total of 58 wraps of cocaine were immediately recovered from his undergarments, after which he was placed under observation. Within days, he excreted 69 additional pellets in seven excretions, bringing the total to 127 wraps, weighing 1.388 kilograms,” Babafemi said.
The suspect, who operates boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, Anambra State, remains in NDLEA custody for further investigation.
In a related operation, NDLEA officers intercepted three consignments of illicit drugs destined for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos on October 9 and 10.
One of the shipments contained 1.74 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside blocks of glass ceramics.
Others included 114 grams and 168 grams of pentazocine and tramadol injections, respectively, while a third consignment held 48 grams of tramadol capsules concealed in Vitamin C containers.
The agency also thwarted attempts by criminal networks to smuggle 2.6 kilograms of skunk and 422 grams of tapentadol concealed in black soap tablets bound for Turkey; 169 grams of cocaine hidden in ladies’ handbags heading to Australia; and 568 grams of “Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, tucked in herbal containers destined for the United Arab Emirates.
At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, NDLEA operatives intercepted 27,510 pills of rohypnol concealed in sachets of alcoholic drinks bound for South Africa.
Following initial arrests of a freight agent and a cab driver, a follow-up operation led to the arrest of the mastermind, 46-year-old Samuel Omoruyi (alias Yellow), at Oyingbo Market on October 2.
On the same day, an Italy-based businessman, Enehizena Augustine Uyimwen, was arrested while attempting to export 3,700 pills of tramadol 225mg and 2,600 tablets of tapentadol 200mg concealed in food items to Europe. Uyimwen confessed that he was trafficking the opioids for a fee of €945.
Babafemi further disclosed that NDLEA operatives carried out several successful raids across states.
In Edo State, a raid on the home of one Emmanuel Sunday, 33, at Ugbekpe Ekperi, Etsako Central LGA, yielded 47 kilograms of cannabis. In Osun State, two suspects, Nureni Ayobami Eleweodo, 48, and Oladejo Taiwo, 52, were arrested with 635 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus, while two others were nabbed with 100 kilograms of the same substance.
In Rivers, Katsina, Niger, Ondo, and Kaduna States, multiple arrests were made and large quantities of drugs—including tramadol, cannabis, exol-5 pills, and pentazocine injections—were seized during separate operations.
