BEVERLY HILLS, March 15, (THEWILL) – The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has informed all Christians at home and abroad of the suspension of the Christian Day of Mourning earlier scheduled to take place globally on Sunday March 19, 2017.
The CAN President, Rev Supo Ayokunle. noted the preparations made by various Christian groups to participate in the programme, which he said was
designed in all honesty and sincerity, to mourn the killing of thousands of Christians by religious insurgents.
He however based the development on credible reports of concern, adding that the suspension of the program was due to “misunderstanding, misinterpretation and subsequent security concerns”.
A statement from the National Secretariat of CAN urged all Nigerian Christian assemblies to have a normal Sunday Worship on 19th March, 2017 but suspend any action on the Day of Mourning.
According to the statement signed by the CAN General Secretary, Dr. Musa Asake, “Nevertheless, Christians should be careful and watchful. Further communication shall be issued by CAN in due course.
“In the meantime, we are all urged to remain steadfast and resolute in the Grace of God that Nigeria shall overcome the present distress and peace shall prevail all over the nation.”
