August 06, (THEWILL) – The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, on Tuesday, in Abuja, met with heads of various security and intelligence agencies.
Present at the meeting were the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force, the Inspector General of Police, Comptroller-General of Customs, Directors-General of the Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency, Chief of Defence Intelligence, Controller General of Corrections, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The meeting comes a day after the security chiefs held an emergency meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.
Although details of the meeting are sketchy as of press time, THEWILL reports that it may not be unconnected with the security implication of the ongoing nationwide protests against hunger and economic hardship in the country which turned violent with some demonstrators calling for regime change in some part of the country.
Some protesters in the northern part of the country have also stormed the streets, flying Russian flags, a development the security authorities have described as treasonable.
Earlier, The Nigerian military described as a treasonable offence the hoisting of foreign flags by Nigerian protesters. It also reiterated its commitment to defend democracy in Nigeria, saying: “Democracy is what we stand for, democracy is what we will continue to defend.”
