December 23, (THEWILL) — No fewer than 1,300 residents of Nnung Oku community in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, have received free medical services through a two-day outreach organised by Champion Breweries Plc as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
The medical outreach, held at Ima Bridge Hospital, offered free consultations, screening and treatment for a range of common ailments, including malaria, hypertension and diabetes.
Beneficiaries also received eye examinations, reading glasses and health education on disease prevention and healthy living.
The initiative, according to the company, aims to improve access to basic healthcare at the grassroots level and support the well-being of communities hosting its operations.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Managing Director of Champion Breweries Plc, Dr Inalegwu Adoga, said the company remained committed to people-centred projects that have a direct impact on the lives of host communities.
Dr Adoga, who was represented by the Head of Logistics and Operational Excellence, Mr Theophilus Akporie, noted that the outreach reflected the company’s long-standing pledge to ensure that surrounding communities benefit from its presence.
He urged residents to take advantage of the health education sessions provided during the exercise, stressing the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare.
Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Hon. Edidiong Joseph Inyang, described the outreach as timely and impactful, commending Champion Breweries for prioritising the health needs of the people. He called on other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Ima Bridge Hospital, Dr Joseph Ekpeyong, educated residents on the causes and prevention of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, stroke and diabetes, emphasising healthy lifestyles and regular medical check-ups.
Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Champion Breweries Plc for the intervention, describing it as life-changing.
An 80-year-old beneficiary, Madam Ekaette Etim Okon, said the outreach had renewed her hope and confidence.
The programme was officially flagged off by the Managing Director of Champion Breweries Plc, represented by Mr Akporie, in the company of the Village Head of Nnung Oku, Eteidung Pst. Anietie Edem, and the council chairman, Hon. Inyang.
