BEVERLY HILLS, January 26, (THEWILL) – The ‘home-based’ Super Eagles of Nigeria have crashed out of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the group stage after suffering a lone goal defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea.
Despite coming into the game topping the group with four points from two games, the Eagles needed a draw to qualify for the next round which they could not achieve. Ibrahima Sankhon scored the only goal of the encounter on the stroke of half time, to secure qualification for Guinea as they moved up to second place in the group, with five points which was sufficient.
Similarly, Tunisia moved to the top of the table with a 5-0 demolition of Niger Republic earning a total of five points but superior goal difference to Guinea.
The Eagles tried to force the equaliser in the second half of the game through Chisom Chikatara and Bright Onyedikachi but failed.
Tunisia finished top of the group with five points and a superior goal difference to Guinea, while the Eagles finished third with four points.
Nigeria is yet to win the Chan trophy since its inception in 2009.
