January 03, (THEWILL) – The Senator representing Cross River Central in the National Assembly, Professor Sandy, says Cross River State cannot afford to sacrifice competence on the altar of zoning.
Professor Onor insisted that those championing zoning are ethnic jingoist only interested in misleading the people.
The PDP gubernatorial hopeful disclosed this in Calabar, adding that Cross River state has never practiced zoning since 1999.
He said, “Zoning has never been practiced in our state since the advent of of our current democratic experience in 1999.
“We cannot afford to sacrifice competence on the altar of zoning.
“Those who are promoting and spreading the message of zoning are either cowards who do not have what it takes to contest the party ticket under a free and fair process.
“They are ethnic jingoists who are only interested in misleading our people in pursuit of their very personal and selfish interests”.
Professor Onor said his restoration and development agenda shall be simple, albeit deep, all- encompassing, realistic and realisable.
He stressed that due process shall be an integral part of his governance approach, with institutionalized legislation systems, procedures, processes and policies that promote due process and transparency in all facets of government.
He promised to make only promises he can keep within the context of the resources available to the state, harness the resources of the state and also expand the frontiers of development of all sectors of the state’s economy.
The legislator said he will run a government based on massive consultation across all strata of the society through consultative fora such as Town Hall Meetings, the Cross River State Elders Forum, the Youth Assembly as well as the Traditional Rulers Council.
