April 28, (THEWILL) – Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has dismissed reports alleging that he is planning to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in a coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the governor described the reports as false, misleading, and the handiwork of what he called “political comedians.”
Governor Idris reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, stressing that it was the platform that brought him to power. He vowed to remain with the party, declaring, “I will be the last man standing in the APC.”
Titled “I WILL BE THE LAST MAN STANDING,” the statement reads in part:
“The attention of the APC-made Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, has been drawn to a ridiculously malicious report circulating on social media that he and four other governors were planning to dump their darling party, the APC, and join an imaginary coalition purportedly captained by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, working in cohorts with some other politicians.
“This report is not only false but a huge joke cracked by the most uninteresting political comedians.”
The governor stated that although he would have ordinarily ignored the claims — describing them as a “dance of mad fellows dancing naked in the marketplace” — he felt compelled to respond to set the record straight.
“Governor Idris wishes to state categorically that he is not a political prostitute. He was made in APC, by APC, and for APC. He will be the last person to abandon his reliable and formidable party for any coalition, no matter who the architects and builders are,” the statement said.
He added that he remains focused on delivering good governance to the people of Kebbi State, who, according to him, have shown unwavering support for the APC.
“The people of Kebbi State love him passionately and are firmly rooted in the APC. Therefore, he cannot afford to abandon his people and embrace strangers,” the statement further read.
Governor Idris, popularly known as Kauran Gwandu added:
“I am completely focused on making Kebbi State better and consolidating the gains and successes of our party and our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
If they tell you again that Kaura is likely to leave his APC, tell them I will be the last man standing.”
