February 28 (THEWILL) – A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, has fixed March 7, 2025, for hearing in the suit filed by impeached Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, challenging his removal.

Justice Yetunde Rukayat Pinheiro fixed the date following ruling in an application which granted permission to members of the assembly loyal to the new speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, to be joined as defendants in Obasa’s suit.

The Lagos State House of Assembly had on January 13, impeached Obasa and elected Meranda as new Assembly Speaker.

Dissatisfied with the process, Obasa had in an application dated February 12, and filed before the Lagos State High court, Ikeja, suit the State Government, the House of Assembly and Meranda, to challenge the legitimacy of his removal, insisting due process was not followed.

Making appearances for Speaker Meranda on Friday, were counsels led by prof. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN). Apearing for the State Assembly were Mr Olu Daramola (SAN), Mr Femi Falana (SAN); Dr Muiz Banire (SAN); Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu (SAN); Dr Dada Awosika (SAN); Prof. Dayo Amokaye (SAN); Mr Mofe Oyetibo (SAN); Mr Olumide Oyewole and Mr Wunmi Okeremi.

THEWILL reports that Obasa stormed the Lagos Assembly complex on Thursday, with heavy security operatives, and declared he remained authentic Speaker of the legislative House. He also presided over plenary session with four lawmakers.
