April 12, (THEWILL) – An Ikeja High Court, in Lagos, has granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the sum of N50 million.
Justice Rahman Oshodi, in his ruling on Friday, admitted Emefiele to bail with two sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed and have three years of tax payment with the Lagos State Government.
In addition, the two sureties “must show proper identification, must be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.”
Justice Oshodi also expressed his approval for the bail conditions of N1 million, earlier given to Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoile, who is standing another charge before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat before a Yaba High Court.
Oshodi, however, said that the bail documents must be transferred to the special offences court and must also be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
The Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had on April 8 arraigned the former apex bank chief and his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omoile, on a fresh 26-count charge bordering on abuse of office and corruption.
Emefiele was arraigned before Justice Oshodi on allegations of abuse of office, accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption, and fraudulent property receipt; while his co-defendant was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on acceptance of gift by agents.
THEWILL reported that Emefiele and his co-defendant, on Monday, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
