September 29, (THEWILL) — The National Industrial Court, on Monday, barred the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) from embarking on a strike that could halt crude oil and gas supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.
Delivering a ruling on an ex parte motion, Justice Emmanuel Sublim restrained PENGASSAN, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) from taking any action that would disrupt operations at the refinery.
The court held that such a move could cause “irreparable damage” to the economy and national interest.
Justice Sublim ordered that the interim injunction be served immediately on all parties and adjourned the case to October 13, 2025, for further hearing.
PENGASSAN had last week instructed its members to suspend the supply of crude and gas to the facility, citing alleged dismissal of over 800 workers and unfair labour practices. The union also threatened to shut down vessel loading activities tied to the refinery.
