October 08, (THEWILL) — The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of its vehicle tinted glass permit policy following an order of the Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State.
The court, in its ruling last Friday, directed the police to halt the enforcement of the policy pending the determination of a suit before it.
In the interim order, the court instructed the police authorities to “respect judicial processes pending further proceedings in the matter.”
It also ordered the maintenance of the status quo, warning that any violation would amount to contempt of court.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the enforcement had been suspended in compliance with the court order.
“The enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until a decision is reached,” Adeh said.
She explained that the regulation was introduced primarily for security purposes, noting that vehicles with tinted windows had been used by criminals to evade detection and identification.
Adeh dismissed speculations that the policy was intended as a revenue drive, stressing that all payments for the permits are remitted directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA).
