January 27, (THEWILL) – A Kano State High Court has issued an interim order restraining the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and his agents from inviting, arresting, or harassing the Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado.
The presiding judge, Justice Sunusi Ado Ma’aji, granted the order on Monday, pending the hearing of a substantive suit challenging Gado’s arrest.
The court’s order partly read, “Order is hereby granted appointing Red Star Express Plc., Courier Services, as a Special Bailiff to serve the originating process and other subsequent court processes in this suit on the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Defendants/Respondents at their offices in Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Area 11, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, outside the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court.”
It further stated, “Order of Interim Injunction is hereby granted restraining the Defendants/Respondents either by themselves, their agents, officers, privies, representatives, and assigns from further inviting, arresting, detaining, or harassing the officers of the 2nd Plaintiffs/Applicants or doing such acts capable of interfering with the 2nd and 3rd Plaintiffs/Applicants’ rights in relation to this suit, compelling him to attend their office in Abuja or any other location in the country on January 27, 2025, or any further subsequent dates pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
The restraining order also mandates all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the motion on notice.
The plaintiffs in the case are the Kano State Attorney General, the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado.
The defendants include the Nigerian Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, the AIG Zone One, the Kano Commissioner of Police, ASP Ahmed Bello, and Bala Muhammad Inuwa.
The court adjourned the matter to February 10, 2025, for the hearing of the motion on notice.
Gado’s legal troubles began after reports emerged that he allegedly confiscated property linked to the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, prompting his arrest by a team from the Inspector General of Police’s office last week.
