February 27, (THEWILL) — An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has upheld the legitimacy of the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), confirming the emergence of the Taminu Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Delivering judgement on Friday, Justice Ladiran Akintola granted all 13 reliefs sought by the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, through his counsel, Musbau Adetunmbi (SAN), in a suit challenging the convention and the leadership that emerged from it.
The court held that the November 15–16, 2025, convention was lawfully convened and that the election of the new NWC complied fully with the PDP Constitution.
The reliefs granted include the validation of Dr Turaki as National Chairman, recognition of all national officers elected at the convention as the lawful leadership of the party, affirmation of all resolutions passed, and an order restraining any party organ or member from rejecting the leadership or the convention’s outcomes.
The court also dismissed applications seeking joinder from other party members opposing the convention, stating that such motions were unnecessary.
The judgement has been welcomed by PDP stakeholders as a boost for internal democracy and party unity. Party officials said the ruling provides legal certainty, allowing the Turaki-led leadership to focus on reconciliation and strategic planning ahead of upcoming elections.
