October 12, (THEWILL) – Courts and most ministries, departments and agencies in Cross River state are under lock and key as organised Labour in the state kicked off an indefinite industrial action.
The strike action was called yesterday over the failure of the state government to make restitution for any of the 14 complaints in a letter the body sent to it.
The complaints include non-implementation of the full 27.5% teachers enhancement allowance, non-implementation of promotions, non-remittance of deductions, non-implementation of minimum wage, among others.
The premises of Judiciary Headquarters along Mary Slessor was under lock and lawyers were seen reflecting in the development.
Similarly, secondary school students were asked to go back home and some were seen loitering on the streets of Calabar.
No official statement has been issued by the government thus far and the governor, alongside the 18 local government chairmen, are on an official visit to France.
