Criminal Forgery: INEC Disowns Viral Document On Ekiti PDP Congress, Governorship Primary

November 21, (THEWILL) — The Independent National Electoral Commission has disowned a viral document claiming it approved the postponement of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Ekiti State Congress and governorship primary.

In a statement on Friday, the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, said the document, dated November 10, 2025, neither originated from the office of the Secretary to the Commission nor from any authorised INEC channel.

She explained that preliminary checks showed the Secretary’s signature was forged by “unscrupulous elements,” stressing that the fake memo was deliberately designed to mislead political actors, journalists and the general public.

“The Commission hereby states unequivocally that the said correspondence is fake and should be disregarded in its entirety,” the statement read.

INEC condemned the act as a grave electoral offence and warned individuals involved in the creation or circulation of forged documents to desist in the interest of electoral integrity and national stability.

The Commission added that it is already collaborating with security agencies to investigate the matter, with the aim of identifying, arresting and prosecuting those behind the forgery.
