December 27, (THEWILL) – The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviating, Dr. Betta Edu, has said the Cross River Children’s Carnival is an opportunity to preach humanity.
Dr. Edu, a former member of the Cross River State Executive Council, stated this at the Zoo Garden in Calabar during the flag-off of the carnival.
The Minister said there is nothing bigger than being humane to another human being as it’s bigger than religion and anything else.
She called on all to be their brothers’ keepers and end all the wars and massacres across the world.
“This is indeed an opportunity to preach humanity, as I’ve always known, there is nothing greater than a human being being humane to another person.
“It’s bigger than religion, anything else to show love, compassion, kindness to others and I believe that’s what this carnival represents.
“As a nation, people, we raise a voice for humanity, to say that we should bring an end to every war, massacre, every uncalled-for killing everywhere around the world and in Nigeria.
“We must be our brothers’ keeper and we must value what God has given to us, which is life. Do not take another one’s life and be humane in everything you do, this is the humanity carnival,” she said.
Speaking while flagging off the carnival, Rev. Eyoanwan Bassey Otu, the wife of the State Governor, said children are the future and what we ought to do is to encourage them with societal values.
In her words, “Children are the future of any great nation and what we have to do is to encourage them with values of the society and give them what it takes to add value to their lives.
“We are here to expose them to the things they really require in life. We are here to encourage the children to come out and enjoy themselves and give them all we can give them to add value to their lives, make them feel at home, get excited and know they are loved.”
