December 19, (THEWILL) — The Central Securities Clearing System Plc (CSCS) has announced the appointment of Mr Shehu Yahaya Shantali as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026, subject to regulatory no-objection.
Shantali succeeds Mr Haruna Jalo-Waziri, who is stepping down after eight years at the helm, during which he led significant strategic growth, strengthened governance structures, and modernised CSCS’s systems and operations, positioning the company for long-term resilience and competitiveness within Nigeria’s capital market.
The Chairman of the Board, Mr Temi Popoola, commended the outgoing CEO for his contributions, describing his tenure as one marked by operational excellence, innovation, and enhanced stakeholder confidence.
Popoola said the Board was confident in Shantali’s ability to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessor and steer CSCS into its next phase of growth.
Shantali brings over two decades of experience in accounting, finance, and financial services across Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He holds a BSc in Accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and an Executive MBA from Kingster Business School. His career spans capital markets, investment banking, financial advisory, and regulatory work, including a decade at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Nigeria, where he played a key role in the migration to IFRS and the Commission’s transition to the contributory pension scheme.
He has also been actively involved in financial inclusion and digital financial infrastructure development. As Managing Director and CEO of Apricot Investments Limited, he led the development of the MicroWorld platform, which supports the distribution of micro-insurance, micro-pension, micro-health, and other structured financial products.
Reflecting on his tenure, Jalo-Waziri said it was an honour to lead CSCS and expressed confidence in the company’s future. In his remarks, Shantali said he was honoured by the Board’s confidence and looked forward to working with stakeholders to strengthen CSCS’s leadership position and support the continued growth of Nigeria’s capital market.
CSCS Plc stated that it remains committed to the highest standards of corporate governance, operational excellence, and stakeholder engagement as it continues to support the development of Nigeria’s capital market.
