April 28, (THEWILL) –Â A dusk to Dawn curfew has been Imposed on Namu Town in Qua’an Pan local government area of Plateau State, following security breaches that occurred there Thursday afternoon.
A statement signed by the secretary to Qua’an Pan local government Council, Gideon Dashe, says the curfew is with immediate effect, as security operatives have been directed to take charge.
The statement also advised residents to remain indoors through out the curfew hours, and avoid acts that are capable of causing further breach of peace.
Commotion reportedly ensued in the town on Thursday, after the Senator representing Plateau South, Dr Nora Daduut, commissioned an Information and Communication Technology Centre, some youths mobilised an offensive and blocked the road leading out of the town, holding the Senator and her entourage hostage for hours.
They also damaged vehicles, including burning a Plateau State NUJ vehicle, and forced thirteen journalists to escape through a bush path and trekked several kilometers to safety in Kwande town in Qua’an Pan, before they arranged alternative transport back to Jos.
