March 03, (THEWILL) — Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has intensified efforts to curb online fraud, partnering with security and law enforcement agencies to dismantle fake social media accounts and shut down impostors circulating bogus investment and employment offers under its name.
Dangote Industries Limited is one of Africa’s largest conglomerates, with operations spanning cement, sugar, salt, fertiliser, oil, and gas, among other critical sectors of the economy.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday by its management, the conglomerate said it had become aware of increasing cases of individuals falsely claiming to represent the company, its leadership, and members of the Dangote family in a bid to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the statement, the impostors have been using fake social media profiles and messaging platforms to promote non-existent investment schemes, business proposals, charity drives, and employment opportunities, often requesting funds or sensitive personal information.
The company categorically distanced itself from such activities, stressing that neither Dangote Industries Limited nor its Group President, Aliko Dangote, nor any executive initiates contact with private individuals via WhatsApp, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or other social media platforms for financial transactions, contracts, investments, or personal requests.
It further clarified that members of the Dangote family do not solicit funds or business deals online, adding that some do not operate Facebook or TikTok accounts.
“For the avoidance of doubt, these individuals are impostors seeking to exploit the company’s reputation and brand integrity for personal gain,” DIL noted.
Dangote Industries advised the public to disregard unsolicited messages, calls, and online accounts claiming affiliation with the company or its executives.
It emphasised that all official communications are disseminated strictly through verified corporate channels and recognised media platforms.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting Nigerians from fraudulent schemes, the company disclosed that it is working closely with relevant security agencies to investigate and prosecute those behind the impersonation and scam activities.
Members of the public who receive suspicious communications purportedly from the company or its officials were urged to report such incidents to the appropriate authorities immediately.
