April 29, (THEWILL) – The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is set to induct 52 newly-trained engineers into its workforce following the completion of its Graduate Trainee Programme.
According to a statement by the refinery, the inductees—comprising graduates in Chemical, Electrical/Electronic, and Mechanical Engineering—are members of Batch 10 and completed their training with a final project presentation and defence before the management at the weekend.
Vice President, Oil and Gas, Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, represented by the Head of Operations at the refinery, Manas Banerjee, congratulated the new engineers on their successful transition from trainees to employees.
The Coordinator of the programme and Assistant General Manager, Human Asset Management, Dr. Ebele Oputa, revealed that the engineers underwent a rigorous two-year hands-on training process, designed for fresh graduates recruited shortly after completing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“At the time of recruitment, they were all under 30 years of age. They passed through a five-phase selection process and began the programme with a three-week induction, followed by four to five months of observation and shadowing,” she said.
Oputa explained that the training included classroom sessions on equipment handling, six months of on-the-job training, and specialised plant-wise exposure in the production areas under supervision and coaching.
“Each trainee is required to complete at least two presentations, written exams, and a final project with a defence. A confidential appraisal report on character and performance is also prepared to determine their confirmation as full-time staff,” she added.
The newly inducted engineers expressed gratitude to the management for the opportunity to grow and contribute to the refinery’s operations.
