February 10, (THEWILL) — Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have dismantled a suspected crime and drug hub in the Eket Local Government Area, arresting five suspects and recovering assorted illicit substances during a pre-dawn raid.
The operation, carried out at about 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, was part of an intensified crackdown on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare.
According to the Command, the raid targeted an identified black spot within Eket, where three male and two female suspects were apprehended.
Those arrested were identified as Bassey Bassey, Blessing Joshua, Christiana Emmanuel, Alfa Bamese, and Chidiebere Ekwozor.
Items recovered from the scene included dried leaves suspected to be Colorado (popularly known as “colos”), liquid and “loud” intoxicating substances, and assorted Tramadol and Codeine tablets.
Operatives also seized methamphetamine (commonly referred to as “ice”), an unknown black powder, an ATM card, cash amounting to ₦15,800, as well as several photographs and documents.
Police sources disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in criminal activities and possible links to wider drug and crime networks within the area.
One of the suspects, Alfa Bamese, reportedly claimed that some of the recovered photographs were meant for an “assignment,” a claim the police say is being investigated.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirmed its resolve to sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid policing efforts.
The Command assured the public that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
